Heading to the Brevard/Cashiers area in the next week and will be taking my best gal on her first ever flyfishing trip. Anyone have any recommendations? She has never fly fished so the guide will have to be able to teach her, she thinks I will just end up getting frustrated and yell at her:yawning_face:
I live up here and I would say that if I were goin to be in Brevard area i would go with Davidson river outfitters. Hunter banks focus is stong to the SoHo in Tn which is dynamite, but hellandgone from brevard There is so much water up here but it sounds like you want someone to help with your girl, I can understand the point that you might get frustrated or whatever. If you fish the hatchery section on the D you will not have fun and she won’t either, huge fish that laugh at your offering. That said DRO has a private strech that I am sure is great. The famous (over-rated) section of the D and the park,(Smokies), are not kind to beginners. There is a new trophy section on the raven near Cherokee but it sounds like you won’t come that far. I don’t work for either shop just live here and fish all the time. good luck
If you haven’t committed already. I highly second the Davidson River Outfitters. My brother and I have fished with them numerous times and never had a bad experience. Ask for Walker or Lou. Their private waters are great and they also offer excellent float trips.
I checked out the DRO people and have been in that shop several times before. I wanted someone to come meet me in the area where our cabin is. That way every trip I take from now on up there will be more productive for me.
