Have been braving the cold recently, fishing at least 2-3 days each of the past few weeks with decent luck. Really got on them yesterday on the second half of the rising tide, trolling shallow grass lines with oyster bottoms or near creeks. I found 7-8 schools of fish, some of them the densest schools I’ve seen.
My success throughout the day depended on whether I saw them before they saw me, and I found once spooked by my sight or catching one of their friends, the schools seemed to turn off. The exception was the most dense school, as I imagine the competition for food makes them a little less cautious?
Broke out the fly rod and put five more in the boat using mainly Lefty’s Deceiver variations and one on a shrimp variation. Throwing a weedless spoon on the spinning rod was a good searching bait - I would throw parallel to the banks I was trolling to cover those fish that escaped my sight.
