Man the sea was smooth. My brother and I were headed to hooville. We get to 100 ft to let the bait thaw… oh boy we forgot the bait. Time to bottom fish. We ran across a new spot in 95 ft, nice bottom . We used squid and cigars and couldn’t stop pulling in ginormous bliners and bsbs. Also used a doa swimp and killed it. Limited out on bliners and got totally fooled on a bonita. Thought I saw a dolphin grab it… oh well. Great day with my brother. Ran 40mph out and 43mph in. 23.5 sea hunt
Brutal!
When we wahoo fished in FL and the Bahamas we pulled lures specifically.
Sounds like the bottom action was awesome!

Tiger,
Keep a couple yo-zuri Bonita’s on the boat.
Great lures in place of ballyhoo.

We had 2 yo-zuri on the boat. We have never fished them before, so we got a little nervous going all the way out there with 2 lures. Wasn’t sure how well they would work. Thanks for the advice.

Make lemonade out of lemons! I’ve been contemplating getting some of them fancy pants yozuri bonitas. How do most people rig them to assure they don’t give a hoo a real expensive lip ring?
A very expensive lip ring(50 Bucks gone… phewww) Those lures are like candy though.

18" of 400 lb cable straight to the snap swivel.
They work pretty well. Also, try a dark colored Ilander over a big, dark squid skirt and 6-10 oz of lead and use a double hook rig. They work pretty well too
How deep do they dive?
They don’t dive as much as just sink.
The faster you pull them, the shallower they run.
We even pulled them crossing the stream at 16-18 knots before using a cigar weight out in front - just takes a ton of drag at that speed and water resistance. We also got hits on the cigar weight so you had to make sure it was wire or cable ahead of and behind the weight.
We pulled them on wire and mono outfits and as best I can recall, never lost one.
We also use to pull one right in the prop wash when mahi fishing and it was unnerving to see what the fish would do to it!
Best of luck!

That far when the water is as cold as it gets all year long without the option of a life raft and most likely no room for survival suits. Probably not even type 1 offshore life jackets on the boat either. You’d be hypothermic in no time.
Oh wait but I thought capsized CCs were unsinkable!
Not for me.
Those Sea Hunts are tanks, and ride great. Don’t judge without knowing more. I doubt anyone carries a survival suit on this board. I don’t go that far usually this time of year, but when I did it was lake flat.
