Went out 1/6 headed for the Stono Snapper Hole area from the jetty’s.
Bumpy ride early but beat our way out. Cool wildlife out there in the winter. Lot’s of ducks, loons and different porpoises and I even saw an albatross. Coolest thing though was while we were poking around looking for a place to drop a bait, we had a flyby from a great white.
Just off the corner of the stern. Just cruised by one time to check us out. The front end looked like the size of a the hood on a ford ranger then tapered down to a crazy thin tail. First one I’ve ever seen for sure. I think about 14ft long as a guess. It was just massive. Looked wider/bigger than the leatherback turtle I saw once. Several other boats around. I wonder if anybody else saw him.
Anyway had a great day caught plenty of fillets for a fish fry.
Saw a neighboring boat catch and release a real nice red grouper.
Flattened out for the ride home. BSB and Beeliners caught mostly. I will say the giant lizard fish bite is en fuego.
Good for you. I’m amazed by how close they come in by the reports from the guy in HHI and the one that was caught off the jetties down in Jacksonville Fl. I would love to know if they are feeding on the big sow Spottails.
Could you tell if it had a satellite tag on its dorsal? I guess it would have been easy to spot if it did.

Pretty sure no tag. Water was real clear. Green water though all the way to 90ft. Actually looked like blackwater. Maybe from all the rain. Gave the shark a green/gold look. I never saw him move though, just glided under real slow. Took me eyes/brain a sec to figure out what was going on. First glance just this big glow showing up at transom. my mind said turtle? Giant turtle, wth! then the pectoral fins came in view. they looked to be 18 inches wide or so at the base looking strait down on them. I never saw the dorsal or side profile at all.
Hey I was the guy with the red grouper! crazy I didn’t see that!
Hey man I was hoping you might see this post.
That was a nice fish you caught. Y’all we’re doing great.
post that pic!!?
I thought about hollering over to see if that shark came your way too.
We saw it as we were approaching from the South it was headed North
Maybe 20 mins before we passed by you the first time. What brought us over your way was a turtle. Figured he would be around something but we really couldn’t find another decent show of fish anywhere else.
We tried! Hope you didn’t mind the company.
After that we went to the 60 and caught just couple more nice BSB before we had to go. On the way there was a lot of birds and surface activity.
Just like over by you. You think those were little Jacks on the surface?
I couldn’t figure it out.
educate me on the stono snapper hole… is that black banks or like the north hole area?
“mr keys”
Afraid I’m not much help there. Just a hard bottom “area” marked on the pay charts maybe 7-8 miles or so beyond black banks.
90ft of water. Big area. I was just tagging along to clean fish.
Not a whole lot to see on the depth finder. Several boats around.
Only decent show of fish I saw was right beside Fishguy. Sure there’s more around.
