1/9 - 1/15 Sheeps and trout

Alright yall,

Ive been a little lax about postin here lately so i guess i need to get on the ball… i fished about 4 days last week beginning on tues, and have been pulling some pretty nice numbers…

Tuesday - I headed out to fish the outgoing tide for some trout off of the ICW and found the wind kickin around 15- 20 kts, and the current running hard. I litterally could not paddle up my favorite creek as the wind was in my face along with the current, so I was forced to take refuge in a smaller creek that was somewhat sheltered from the wind. I had a new lure along with me by Betts (the cast net company) called “billy baits” its basically a DOA shrimp with a fixed weight and holographic foil inlaid in the body, pretty dang cool. This one happend to be clear with a pink back, and the trout were diggin’ it… i end the day with around 30 from the only two spots the wind would allow me to fish. I did note a pattern though, the fish were only holding in water that was at least 6’ deep, once the tide moved out far enough to make the first spot i was fishing shallower than that, the bite stopped and I had to find deeper water.

Wed- Because i work in a tackle shop, I am blessed to work around people who come from different backgrounds and have different fishing expertise, I learn how to catch alot of different species (in theory of course) so on this day I decided to go looking for sheephead, something i have never intentionally done. Sure ive caught the lone fish here and there while looking for other quary but never have I intentionally gone in persuit of these fish. I grabed up a pint of fiddlers and launched from breach inlet with the intention of fishing the docks behing sullivan’s and IOP. Going back to the theory i was speaking of, i knew that sheephead feed on barnicles, crabs, oysters, sea urchins and just about any other critter that likes to hang on for dear life to any stationary object left in the water for any length of time, so my plan was simple, find the oldest nastiest dock i could

Sheepshead fishing in a kayak? thats cool…

I wonder if pier alpha, in cooper, holds any.
