10/12/12 and 10/13/12

Went out to my spot on the harbor last Friday and Saturday night. I did ok, got a freezer bag full of good sized ones w/o using bait. The fishing was fun though. On Friday, my in law caught 2 medium sized whiting, a smaller ray (probably about 1 1/2ft from wing tip to tip), a 3ft sand shark, and a massive Eagle ray. He fought the Eagle ray for close to an hour, go bruises on his arms, messed up the part where his rod connects to the reel. In the process, we lost a Diet Mountain Dew, a cigar, and a lantern. The good news, was that I did get the lantern back. He finally got the ray up to the dock, and when I went to go grab it, the weight of the ray, straightened out the hook enough, that it slipped right off. It was hard to tell how big it was exactly, but I would say at least 3ft from wing tip to tip. My in law had a huge grin on his face, he loved every agonizing minute of it.

On the following night, the water was rough, but I still managed to bring in a half a freezer bag w/o bait. My wife had a ton of fun though, she caught 5 medium sized skates and 2 medium sized rays. She really enjoyed the “fight” they put up.

All in all, we had a great time, talking, fishing, and shrimping. Gonna have to do it again soon.
