10-16-08 Diving Off Charleston

Went out on “Rigged Out” yesterday with Goldfinch and shot some nice fish. Vis was about 20’ for the most part.

We got a limit of Grouper, 3 red snapper, and several big triggers/sheepshead. Highlight of the day was a battle with a big cobia. Put 3 freeshafts in him then followed till he settled down in the sand. Held my breath and snuck up on his blind side to grab one of the shafts. Barely grabbed hold and the fight was on. Not sure who bled more, me or the cobia.

Since I haven’t been in the water for a month.

Moderate current. Wasn’t unbearable.

That cobia looks short to me!

good looking fish

Nice pics. Sure would be nice to get those grouper that easy with a hook and line. That cobia had to be a tremendous fight! heard of guys free gaffing and nearly jumping out the darn boat to get away from those things. Cannot imagine hanging on to a green one while he tried to swim away.

The fall is like a sore peter!! Tough to beat!!

robio - thanks for the call. the prior obligations just wouldnt let me make it

Good stuff, as usual.
