10-18/19, Fall killing going down!

10/18 Got an invite from Bully to try the ledge Fri and dive on the way back in. Fishing kind of slow due to the full moon but put some keepers in the boat.

Fish weren’t biting but we were. Venison Parmesan meatball subs for lunch!

Left the ledge with a variety of goodies,Queen and Grey triggers, Beeliners, a few scamps and some good Bsb’s.Did a couple of dives in 125’ and the viz was 60’. Grouper were not cooperating today but a 9,lb lobster helped make the day.Had 4 bugs and a few Scamps on the dives.

Thanks to Billy Freeman for an awesome day with my sidekick Realfish01 on this awesome boat! As good as it fishes its also a top notch dive boat with all the gear stowed below decks and the ladder between the motors.

10/19 Its fall and we know the groupers were some were? In the dark of night Looseshoe and I slipped into Marvins yard and eased out with the No limit, a 31 Intrepid as Realfish01 had unexpectedly sold his 33’ Hydrosport. Feeling his pain we picked him up at his dock as he mournfully sat with his feet in the water eyeing the empty lift! Bernerd came along in case we needed help keeping Realfish01 in control( Bernerds former Airborn and a rather large unit).
Ride out was nice after a little delay for a storm but when we dropped the camera down it landed on the wing of a large Ray with a squadron of 30/50lb COBIA! DIVE,DIVE,DIVE!!! Eric forgot all about that boat on a trailer headed back to Fla with a new owner! Put the first two down and it was game on, except the Cobia won the first round. Our divers came up empty handed, literally! One bag made it to the surface destroyed by a tagged and bagged Cobia, never to be seen again. One big Cobia ripped

What kinda fish was that in the first pic? Crazy looking!

Great report…making me want to get my scuba certs!

The voices in my head said to go spend my money on fishin’ gear and blow off work!

Must be because of the restrictions on them... Wait... There are no restrictions on them!!!

Sells - How much you get per/lb for blue spotted coronet?

Darn I should have gone out. Sailflow made it look bad but at least you all had a good time of it. That coronet looks like good king mack bait.

So…tell us how you really feel

Great write-up. Nice catch

I found that fishing/diving Friday and Saturday has been very therapeutic in helping me cope with the recent sale of my 33’ Hydra-Sport on Thursday. With a couple of thousand hours on the boat and thirsty HPDI’s, it was time to send her back to Florida for an overhaul and some new 4-strokes…

Thanks Billy for a great trip on the magic carpet ride. The ride of the 33 Freeman is unlike any boat I’ve ever been on! From the ride, storage, set-up, accessibility, fuel efficiency, did I say the ride?.. I could go on and on…

And thanks Marvin for letting us take your Intrepid while your were at the Zac Brown concert with misaligned priorities.

Anyway, here are a couple of underwater videos from the weekend if you have nothing better to do with 15 minutes of your life:

Scouting out the spot, we dropped the camera right on top of a stingray and some cobia. Some 10lb red snapper too:

The video of the cobia battle. The visibility is terrible and only gets worse after Bugcatcher sticks a steel shaft into an angry cobia:

Here’s a video of a scamp, a few lobsters, and a school of amberjack in 120’ where the visibility is 50’+:

Erik your boat! OK so does this mean you are in negotiations with Billy? You are welcome to rough it with my anytime on the Anglers Dream until you get a new boat. Bring those coronet numbers

Those videos are awesome. Good stuff

“mr keys”

There is a cool trick to finishing cobia with a knife. start the tip sideways forward of the soft spot and slide the knife toward the back of the fish along the skull. The skull guides the knife right into the sweet spot.

Nice fish guys!
