Went out yesterday on a rough ocean. Went to 90 ft and fished a spot for a while with not much big fish luck and when we dove down we realized why we hadn’t caught more than b liners and triggers. Not much going on down there. Went to another spot close by and it was covered in life. We had 2 good dives there. We managed our boat limit of 4 nice gags, 3 hogs (2 female, 1 nice male), 1 spiny lobster, 2 slipper lobsters, 18 triggers, a few vermillions and a few red porgys. The ocean didn’t really lay down until about 2pm and the ride home was nice. Visibility on the bottom was 25-30 ft and mid 60’s temp. Triggerfish were biting hard on just about any size hook and mostly squid for bait. I tried a plethora of jigs without much luck for whatever reason. Great day on the water thanks to my good buddy Wes.
On my 1st dive, I accidentally cut the 400lb mono leader that connects to my spearshaft so i freeshafted a few triggers to add some meat to the box. On the way up the only trigger on my stringer that was still alive bit me in my butt and locked on. I was screaming underwater and it took several hard pulls to get him off my butt. Then 1 min later he bites me in the arm and i had to pry him off again. Enuf of that…I pulled out my Riffe dive knife and chopped him up on my saftety stop. Pretty funny story once i got on the boat but my g/f verified my trigger wounds in the shower last night. Really fun day on the water and hopefully Yamaha will send me my new 300 hp motor so i can be back on my boat.
Epic day with an awesome crew! This was the first chance I’ve had to dive this ledge all year. Happy to say it is healthy with swarms of ARS, Trigger fish, Hog snapper 20lb.+ Gags and everything in between. Here are a few more pics for the post.
Nice shooting guys…Its amazing how many/big fish get out here when your not fishing the same rock every week!

Fishing the same rock every week is no bueno. The only reason i would have to want to dive that spot again in the next year is to go back and kill all the lionfish there. Beautiful ledge but absolutely covered in lionfish. Im gonna talk to you about some lionfish death tactics this week Vic
Sounds good. All 300 of my horses are running hard if you want to make a kill trip soon, I could use a fun blood trip…

i forgot to add to the report and totally forgot to even tell the guys on the boat after my dive…
right after i shot a gag, it went down in between 2 big rocks and i watched a 5 ft eel come of the rocks and snatch a red porgy in one bite and go back into the rock with a big bulge in its throat…it was one of the coolest things i have gotten to see underwater!
Yeah man.. been going strong all summer. Installed the simrad nss you told me about. Glad I waited that machine is awesome! It's even better when I get the engine interface working again. You must have recognized the anchor chute.
Vic do you still have a local demand for lionfish? I’m down to clean up some of those guys either way.
very nice, we have been waiting for 2 months for the water to clear up. last time we dove the viz was about 3’ on the bottom. the 60deg temp must have been the air temp? we had 75deg on the bottom a month ago! ready to try them this week if the storm dosen’t come this way. Nov has the best diving of all year,we destroyed them the last couple yrs. have seen the viz up to 80’ this time of year!

vis was in mid 60’s on bottom and vis around 30ft at best but would come in waves of clean water and then poor vis for a few minutes…bugcatcher ive still been waiting for the new motor for my boat or i would have already invivited you- yamaha is killing me right now but im down to go anytime with someone with an empty spot!

I was free diving in the PI spearing hind and caught a trigger by chance (mortally wounded I thought). Last fish on the string and back to the beach I go…
Halfway there my swim was derailed by the most excruciating pain ever; that “mortally wounded” Titan sunk it’s death-grip choppers into the inside of my upper thigh (about 2" from Mr. Dangles). Thankfully the quick release on the string worked, but the trigger wasn’t playing along with this safety measure, and I was left thrashing in 5 ft of surf wrestling a two pound demon-fish off of my leg. All I could think of in self defense was to grab the fish by the eyes and squeeze… It worked! Off went the string in the surf, and I to the beach full of panicked tourist thinking I was being attacked by a shark!

Where are all the pics?
NSS7 or NSS8 is like an HDS on steroids for sure. Love mine.

NSS8… Now I need your your bottom reading skills. Finally got to the computer to get some pics up. The first outboard bracket was made of fiberglass and cracked on me. Replaced it with a stainless marine bracket. I had to revert to our old Mchenry Ave. Oak tree engineering to get it free.
