Shot this little buck off public land Monday morning. I’ve only been hunting behind my house and the National Forest. Saw a few hogs a couple weeks ago but didnt feel like messing with them. I’ve walked between 7-9 miles scouting the past few weeks looking for that perfect spot. I have not found it yet… I’ve found plenty of white and swamp chestnut oaks but none that seem to be producing much. I went back to a spot I had some luck at on Monday. It’s just an oak flat in a swamp with some good sized laurel oaks that seem to produce well.
At around 9:00 I noticed movement and thought I was looking at a goat coming through the woods! The deer was very light colored with dark color around the eyes. I wasnt 100% sure what was going on with him, thought maybe it was sick or had mange of some sort. I was just looking for meat so decided to take him. Small buck but glad to put one in the freezer. Turns out he just had a very grey coat and a nearly white face, never seen a deer like that before.
Nice and tender
