10-29 Fishing Report

Started the morning out way back up in Beaverdam Creek. Lots of small fish and only managed to get one of them. Nothing schooled on top so we headed around the tip of Shull Island and got in the river channel toward the Chapin side.

Marked occasional schools of fish. Definitely lots of small ones, which we manage to catch a few of. Stayed on that course and ended the day in the river channel just out in front of Little Gap. Wind finally drove us off of the water.

Unless something major happens to entice me back there my next trip is going to be further up the river around the Macedonia Church area or may be up around the #4 landing.

I started in the elbow area and worked my way down to the little gap. Caught some small fish and one at about six pounds. Caught about a ten pound blue cat. Checked the wind at six AM and the forecast was for five mph. Never saw five cause white caps. Most fish I caught or marked were still down in the forty foot range.

I had the same thought you guys did and was planning to fish up river last Saturday (25th) but a buddy and I took his new boat out Friday evening and marked a lot of fish in the big water near the “Condos”.
Sat morning put in at the dam and went back to same area and pulled boards / down rods. Had one really good one on down rod, but pulled the hook. There was a ton of schooling activity midway to towers and a lot of bass boats chasing them. We made the mistake of running up river to the mouth of Beaver and on to Little Gap, but didn’t really see anything worth fishing. Went back to dam and found a school in front of swimming area and caught 6 solid keepers (all released alive) within 30 minutes. 1st time I have seen that many quality fish school on Murray and couldn’t believe they were all still at the dam.

I fish mostly at night and every year there are a lot of good fish 2 weeks before the turnover around the dam. Mostly between the beach and the towers. I completely missed it this year. 2 years ago there was a 3 week period I caught 10 to 15 fish each trip and they were all 24" to 30". The week before the lake turned there were less, then gone.
