10/29 neighbor Tim gets an arty slam

Took my neighbor Tim out today. His first time fishing inshore. Set him up with a trout trick, Ralph rod and 1000 reel. Gave him some pointers about how to work the TT, managing line and working slow.

His first fish was a keeper Flatty. He ended the afternoon with an inshore slam on artificial ( all on Trout Trick )! Not too shabby for your first time out

I scraped out a slam myself but nothing great.

Nice chatting with FatRat on the water. Great guy right there I like him a lot. A very good fisherman and a sportsman too. I’ll be seeing him a lot more this winter you can count on that!

Don’t you love putting somebody on their first inshore fish?

I wish my neighbors were into fishing. I’m the only person on my street with a boat in the driveway. Kinda surprising with Bushy Park being 10-15 minutes away.

I literally just said something bout how newbies bring good fishing usually! Great report Opti!

“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”

Hoof - have you taken them fishing? I did that with BOSN and although he used to fish years ago he bought a boat shortly after and is now my primary fishing partner. Neighbor Tim ( I didn’t mention is retired and currently unemployed - video security field if anyone is looking) asked how much it would cost for a basic jon boat and also what time we are going today ! It’ll get under your skin quick, especially on a beautiful day like yesterday.

Here was his trout

I took a coworker out last weekend who just moved to Charleston and had never been fishing in the salt before. One over slot red and a few slotties for the grill is all it took to hook him completely.

I ask them all the time (three of my favorite neighbors specifically), but they all always have some excuse to not go. One of my neighbors told me that his dad always forced him to go and that turned him off to fishing. He has a baby boy on the way, so maybe I can change his mind and get the two of them out there in a few years.

I might start twisting arms to get them out there. I know they’d have a blast.

Anyway, good on you Op for sharing your trips with your neighbors.

people who post weekday catchin’ reports

Good job, Opti! Neighbor Tim sounds like a natural!

I scraped out a slam myself but nothing great.

Yeah, right. “Nothing great” for you probably consisted of a 27" red, and 2# flatty and a 19" trout…

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

A few years back my “Fishing Fire” was about out. All it took was one trip with Opti and putting a few fish in the boat. Some (Chief, Household Operations) say the fire is outa control. I say “Thanks”. Nothing like watching your partner’s fish spit the hook and you cast right in there and “Jack” it. Or, making that 20 minute run when it’s 30 degrees out and hooking a beast on the first cast. Low Country Fishing is awesome!

Oh, I don’t have a Ralph Rod either. I hear they’re pretty nice:smiley:

I love taking first timers fishing, it’s so great watching the stress melt off their faces has soon as they hook their first first.
Good on you Opti for introducing more to this great sport and resource we have around here

Nice seeing you on the waters and congrats to Tim. After talking with him I were under the impression you have a new fishing partner or he’ll be getting a boat soon.

Hopefully taking my dad out this weekend if we can get the 87 28hp Johnson running properly.
Although he no semi-crazy about fishing like I am, he just likes being on the water, spending quality time. Catching is secondary.

go for the trout bonecrusher. they’re easy pickings now.

Inshore slam on artificial! Now thats fishing!!! Great job.
