Got home from work about 5:30 pm yesterday… my wife and I fed my 18 month old son. While cleaning his little dish of food when he was done eating, I looked out the window into my back field.
Saw two deer out there, but couldnt tell what they were. The one closest to the house raised its head and turned sideways. Turned out to be a decent 8 pt.
I hollered to my wife to grab her rifle. We both put it in fire drill mode…She was trying to get her rifle from behind her bedside table, load it, open the bathroom window to lean rifle out, and get squared away.
Meanwhile im looking out the back door blinds at this buck, holding my son so he doesnt sling juice all over the place, and also trying to hold his ears not knowing when she is going to shoot.
All of the sudden, the second deer puts its head up…doe. She starts easing off in the woods and the buck has tail up and nose to the ground following her in a slow trot. Wife never pulled the trigger.
I asked her what happened, and she told me she tried to pull the trigger, but the safety was on!! After she got the safety off the deer started moving and she couldnt get a shot.
10/7 AM…Sat this morning in another area I hunt. On the way there saw a dead buck that a person just hit. Get closer to where im going to park my truck, and see another buck chasing a doe across the road in my head lights. Get in the tree and immediately a spotted fawn comes to corn. Daylight comes, and here comes momma doe. They both eased of after eating half the freaking corn pile.
No shots but lots of excitement. Good to see bucks chasing does.
