10 lb Trout, 8 lb Trout

Wrong forum… Don’t care…

Had the fortune of fishing the Soque River in Northern Georgia this weekend. It is about a 5 hour drive from Charleston. I had no idea that there was a rainbow and brown trout fishery this dynamic in the Southeast.

They started stocking rainbows and browns in Soque in 1970. Since then the trout have been catch and release only with barbless hooks. Brigadoon lodge is tucked directly upstream from Teddy Turner’s property, so that does not hurt the trout numbers! I am going back ASAP. Here is the link if you want to check it out http://brigadoonlodge.com/

The lodge itself is world class. Rebekah Stewart owns the lodge ( as well as Fly Line Wines)and is the most gracious host in the world. Brigadoon offers unbelievable views, gourmet meals and a complete outfit shop for anything that you need to stay dry and high stick fish!

Marc Thompson (678-227-8433) was our guide and is willing to drive to any stream in the Southeast to hammer trout on the fly. Marc was the best guide that I have ever had (salt and fresh) and would highly suggest him to anyone.

This was my first “lodge experience” and my first real “fly fishing” experience as well. Enjoy the pics, grab a bottle of Fly Line Wine and get up there!

Thanks, Capt. G! The trout @ Brigadoon actually love a “cold snap” and worry about otters more than “flipper”!
