Had the fortune of fishing the Soque River in Northern Georgia this weekend. It is about a 5 hour drive from Charleston. I had no idea that there was a rainbow and brown trout fishery this dynamic in the Southeast.
They started stocking rainbows and browns in Soque in 1970. Since then the trout have been catch and release only with barbless hooks. Brigadoon lodge is tucked directly upstream from Teddy Turner’s property, so that does not hurt the trout numbers! I am going back ASAP. Marc Thompson (678-227-8433) was our guide and is willing to drive to any stream in the Southeast to hammer trout on the fly. Marc was the best guide that I have ever had (salt and fresh) and would highly suggest him to anyone.
