Took the yak out for the maiden voyage yesterday after work… I only had about 2 or 3 hours until dark so i launched from the old sulivan’s island boat landing and set out in search of trout… truely i just wanted to get the boat wet and see how it handled, get used to the paddling and all that. I found a little oyster field and as soon as i got into the oyster beds the grub i was trolling behind me went off, and i brought a nice 16" trout to hand… after a few more casts over the oysters i managed a nice size bluefish… I wish i had more time to fish that little area but, the sun was goin down and I really didnt want to cross the ICW in the dark, so i had to start back… on the way however i did see some bait getting smacked around and made a quick cast which brought me another nice bluefish… all in all it was a good way to kill an afternoon and it really got me exited about the new yak… i cant wait to get it rigged out…

Oh yeah, all the fish came on the electric chicken, tried throwin a little top water right before dark but no dice…

Good luck, and tight lines!!!

Man Mad Mike I am envious. I have been looking into a yak for over a year. Unfortunetly I can not keep myself out of your store so my chance of getting a yak are getting slimmer. Anyway what yak did you go with?
Glad you got to put some fish in the yak on its first trip out.

Live like you will live forever but live like you will die tomorrow.

I went with the Malibu X-Factor… my buddy Matt who works at the West ashley store has one as well… its a sweet ride, one of the best “fishing” kayaks on the market… if your in the market i would give it a peek… www.malibukayaks.com it has alot of options and features that you cant get with other kayaks… and its highly upgradable which is why i bought it…

Good luck, and tight lines!!!

Very nice.
How is it standing up in?
For example for fly fishing.
If you don’t mind me asking what are they selling for?
How long is the X-Factor?
I might check into the extreme.
Is it fast?

Live like you will live forever but live like you will die tomorrow.

I stood up in it… very stable, i could throw a cast net if i wanted… in fact im gonna mount a push pole on it so that i can get a better vantage point.

They run from 900 - 1100 depending on the options you select…

the extream runs 1000 - 1300 also depending on the package…

it was pretty fast, and tracked amazingly well, and i dont even have the rudder on mine… but even against the current i was making good time with very little effort… I am not an expert on kayaks but i have used a few… this one is the best ive ever been in … not that that says much…

I havent busted the fly rod out on it yet but i dont think it will be any problem at all…
