My son was sitting in a stand deep in the woods 5PM. He told me that there was grunting and doe bleating etc. Loudest he ever heard. Then, 2 bucks came out and were moving. Did not get a shot. He said the smaller buck he would have shot before he saw the bigger buck and would have been very happy. After he saw what he termed a monster, he said he would not shoot the smaller one. He described the big one as a chocolate rack with more mass than he had ever seen. He said he now knows what a trophy truly looks like. He is back in stand now. Another hunter hooked for life.
Hopefully, the next report will be about shooting.
good hunt
LOL, I know that feeling well. Nothing gets the blood going like chasing a big buck, nothing can be more frustrating than being outsmarted time and again by him either.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Been there, done that! Those overgrown bucks don’t make many mistakes, but I hope your son gets a crack at it. He’s got one to go after now, and that’s a lot of fun to target one deer.
If he’s like me, he’ll replay it in his mind over and over and wonder if there was anything he could’ve done to get a shot. Just remind him those bucks get that big because they are a lot smarter than us when it comes to survival. It usually takes a hot “doe” to get him in trouble…that can generally apply to people, too.

I’ve got one I’ve seen 5 times now, had him dead to rights a couple of times if he takes another step or two. Actually got a shot on him earlier this year at 80yds only to miss, missed a doe at 100 2 days later, found out my 4yo had added a foot of elevation to my Trijicon, sure wish those turrets locked. He ain’t at the taxidermist yet.

" It is what it is".
sounds exciting. i’ve never heard a doe bleat before, at least not that i can remember. does it sound anything like that bleat can thing?
I would assume that your night wasn’t nearly as interesting as mine? Saw 22, several bucks, no shooters.
Did not see a thing tonight. Will be at it before daylight.

Hey Salty, is that the same 4 yr. old that likes to gas you in the stand? HA! That was a hilarious story.
But, yeah…turrets that do not lock…not good.

Nah, the 4yo likes to talk and giggle. The 6yo is the gasser.
