Started morning with high hopes, but boat captain called to cancel trip at 3;30am, disappointed we decided to go and take my boat and go anyway(glad we did!) we fished ledge on beautiful morning yesterday. Fist was a little tunny, then the Wahoo’s were on! Lost 4 but got Three Big ones in the boat plus 4 little tuna and one nice blackfin. Weighed the hoo’s at Mike’s Deer processing, 50, 52, 75 pounds (pile of meat). Rapalas are the king of lures!!! Only saw one other boat, love the fall bite with no crowds.
All artificial (rapalas) Did have problems with leaders breaking 125lb straight and tried the ss cable, they all broke in the eye of the swivels not in crimps. Guess it was from the vibration not sure. trolloing at 10-12 mph, Lost 4 plugs @ $20-25 a pop.(ouch!) any ideas that would keep this from happening?
What hooks do you run them with? Also they got some new colors that look great but you got to shop around. You have to go over kill times 4 with rap 20s n30s, yozuri bonitas, Halco tremblers and other really hard pulling baits. I would switch swivels probably go larger I use a 300 -350lb mighty mini and if you still have problems use a loop protector like a thimble or spring. To mall of swivels are known for not allowing enough free movement causing friction. I do about 16inchs of double wrapped 125 or 135 for wire leader and have ran it with no shock leader and have a snap swivel on the lure end no problems so far I’ve ran it about 8 hrs caught 3 fish and had several good hits come loose I think because trebles. I’ve heard it both ways, the raps run better when tied directly, and then I heard its better to run them off a loop knot, split ring or swivel, I think rapala recommends a loop knot.
Thanks, for the reply. I 'll try it. They don’t give those lures away for sure! I really like some of the new colors with the single hooks I can only find them from over seas (Australia).
