I hit the water before sunrise on a chilly 38 degree morning, thankful for my full enclosure on the proline and heat it was a toasty 72 degrees in the enclosure. we headed up toward wessinger island to find some perch and possible striper.
on the first drift we both got back to to back perch. we didnt get any hits the rest of the drift, so i decided to anchor up on the structure we drifted over. we ended up catching fish back to back, one after another for a couple of hours. the bite COMPLETELY turned off at 830-9. it was odd, we were still marking all the schools of fish we had been all morning but nothing else would bite.
we ended up keeping 16 perch and 2 catfish. while the fish were biting we managed to catch several small striper on nightcrawlers and started to throw many perch back. the striper were stacked up all around us but i couldnt get them to bite any of my artificials. i dropped several different spoons(i didnt have my BP spoon though), dropped bucktails, flukes, and the kitchen sink. if i would have had herring, im sure we could have loaded up. any other ideas on lures i could try to jig when i see schools of striper like this?
