Sorry for the loss sharky. Prayers to your family.
With your comment the other day I thought you might jump onboard. But they threw a wrench in my plans this evening. Told me instead of having off I had to call in to see if they needed me. bummer. so may still go or it might get post poned a day or two.

Day started out a nightmare with forgetting my rainsuit pants and not realizing it till i was getting bait. Closest place? Batesburg wally world. Drove all the way there and yup stops raining while in the parking lot but took all the $ stuff off the boat and stuffed it in the cab…lol… just don’t trust leaving everything on the boat running into any walmart.
So after an hr plus delay getting on the water finally got on. put in at big mans and started up the little saluda to look for some shad just to have something different but quickly turned around when i see the 27, yes 27, bassholes running around chasing birds.
Ran up the other river and found my own birds working around in there. Had them all to myself other than one other boat, but he knew how to work them and wasn’t running all around them. Never caught a fish on an artificial. I don’t know what i was doing wrong. casted top plugs, rattle traps, bucktails and even small hopkins spoon. Missed one hit on a rattle trap. The other boat was doing pretty good throwing A-rigs. I probably just didn’t spend enough time throwing but couldn’t find the time because everytime i casted i had a float or planer rod going off.
Bite was strong for about an hr or so till what felt like the air temp dropped 10* AND the bassholes from the little found their way over. I just don’t think them running all over the area i was fishing helped either. After that fish were spread out pretty good and picked one up here and there but no doubles like i was having earlier.
Finished the day with around 16. Stopped counting after 10. Every fish was over 21" with the biggest being about 27". All fish caught in 9-12’ of water except a couple I caught on DR’s in about 30’on the bottom. Beautiful morning but got a little chilly early afternoon.

good job chip; i have your rope in my truck. we got to get together shortly. just started a new job this week so i am out of touch until after 4:30-5pm. holler
great job on the fish…the correct name for the bassholes would be ASSBOATS.if you make out this weekend let me know if want some company.i got a solution for the assboats.it’s some discarde fishing line some small sticks about a foot long and a bag of popcorn:smiley:.
My favorite trick involves a box of saltines. When the blaster-casters are out in full force, I like to stop around a bend well off from where I intend to fish, dump half a box, and move to my spot. Sometimes I enjoy hanging within sight and enjoying a good belly laugh watching the boats converge on the white tornado feeding on a school of crackers:smiley: One time I attracted 25 bass boats!!

The real pity is most of the " run and gunners " have never figured out that they would catch a lot more fish if they would just ease quietly up to the schooling fish with a good strong trolling motor. I learned this a long time ago from a very good friend and it still serves me well. If you don’t spook the fish they will usually stay in the area a lot longer. Which usually translates into more fish put in the boat.
The real aggravation for me used to be throwing back a small white perch, having the gulls dive on it and then being surrounded by the “run and gunners” casting almost into our boat trying to catch the stripers that weren’t even there. I’ve since learned to pick up any released perch that doesn’t make it back to the bottom to keep the gulls from starting to dive on it.
By the way, there are still a few nice stripers in the elbow area. My biggest one on the spoon Sunday was a little over 27". It hit on the bottom in about 34’ off of a good point.
Nice report Chip. The bassterds were out in force when I was out with Tom on the 22nd. when we were up the little s. As long as they weren’t running in on us, it was entertaining watching them run around. One or two boats would run in on birds fish for three minutes then leave just before the next wave arrived. I watched and never saw a fish boated. I guess its their nature but I laughed thinking about the effort and $ spent running around and they never ask the boat that’s 10 feet away from them “Hey, you catching any”.
It’s not just bass boats…lots of jackasses in CC too. Amazes me the # of people that “striper” fish only when birds are flying or around the towers in summer. No idea how to “find” fish without running up on them or following other fishermen.
Fishing a rather big school in 25’ of water yesterday and saw the same cc run by the area twice, buttonhook, and then blow into area I was fishing, saw no birds, and headed down lake again.
That is why my favorite time to fish is during the gamecock games, have the lake to myself. Little Saluda seems to have the heaviest concentration of school chasers. I don’t even bother chasing schools. It’s not worth it. I end up frustrated, which defeats the purpose of fishing.
sharkey,
Sorry for your loss, when does the catfish bite turn on. I want to catch some big blues

Dealing with a bunch of “cowboys” is par for the course this time of year on Murray. Shame on YOU if you LET them ruin your fishing day. To me, it’s part of the fun. Watching them scramble around at break-neck speed then throwing idiot rigs (bucktail/spoon combos) without letting them sink more than 5 ft. deep for 3 or 4 casts then gone again is nothing short of comical. The fun is figuring out what the fish want (easier said than done sometimes) then putting a stomping on them while most only catch a few and burn 40 gallons of gas. The fish in the rivers so far this November have been VERY picky when throwing only artificials. My Dad is there now and has been in several schools since daylight and only caught 5 with 2 keepers. Only 15 or so boats up in L. River today.
reel karma, you got that right.there’s to particular ones not cc though.one is a grady white with 2 older gents and a glass master with the an inboard.they zip around the lake.i’ve had dealings with them running over planer boards.i’ll take them in when in narrow spots, but for them to run over them in an area like spinners in the main run.that’s just careless.
thanks tom,it’s already started.you going out this weekend.if you do let me know.i just got 8 new rods and dying to try them out.i paired them with abu 7000s.you needing any lead?i gotta pour me some.i can make 1\8-8oz eggs.
Yepp fogman me and billy poured a big bag of chips out one time and there came the birds then about 10 bass boats. .good report murry maker

Chatterbait Sr. ended up with 23 stripers today. 8 keepers. Bait they were responding to was a super fluke on a 1/8 oz. flutter hook.
