Took Monday off to fish bulls bay because "it never rains on Monday. Well it rained.Changed plans once I got a break in the weather and stayed close to home I case of a thunderstorm.

No wind today and 1 bout of a real down pour. The biting mag-flys were the worse I have ever seen them, they almost carried me off!

No trout (one got off by the boat) today. 4 reds and one flounder quick released.

I did some sight casting to some reds working a shoreline and got my first red of the trip. I got a nice blow up (very aggresive) on a top dog jr. but didn’t land it (prob a red). Moved to another flat and had lots of shots but ended up spooking the whole flat.

Smelted lead last night and poured my own jig heads. Made a wobble- head jig head on gamagatzu hooks and I love them! $.55 per unit all told. I pared this with a chartreuse gulp minnow.

I have a new technique that has worked twice for me. Go on an incoming tide and pick a creek (between a boat length and two boat lengths wide). Follow the tide into the creek with a trolling motor and mirrodine lure. Once you approach an off-shoot creek, throw to the mouth of it and retrieve. I have caught some monster reds this way. You won’t catch a lot but when you do the red is typically over slot. Rod bending drag screaming action! That is how I got the 28incher below:

Good luck and tight lines.

Thanks for the report – sounds like a pretty good day! Congrats on making it happen even though the weather wasn’t too cooperative.

Interesting technique. Must try it.

Love to hear, “Let’s go fishing, Grandbuddy”!

Planning on fishing bulls bay Sat/sun this weekend. Will be sure to try your idea.

Ha Ha! Police roadblock style. Reds post up in creeks so small the bait has to come by, and if they see the bait turn around, they’re still busted with no place to go. Smart, I like it.

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.

Good luck!
