115 Johnson, 2001

After one year out of the water I had my 115 Johnson running good on the trailer. In the last month I drained the fuel, new fuel bulb, new fuel filter(and a spare on the boat always). When I first put it in last week it ran good, I ran 2,200rpm, then 3,000 then eased it up to 4,400rpm, the overheat alarm came on, I backed it down to idle, alarm went off. Water stream strong always. I drove it to dock at 2000. Couple days later took it out, got 100yds and the motor stopped suddenly, no sputter, no loss of power, just like the ignition was cut off. Changed fuel filter, etc, checked fuel, still would not restart. Towed back to dock.
I checked fuse under cowl, fuel bowl, bulb was hard, checked kill switch. Tested for spark at plugs, NO spark.
What could be the cause of this? Thanks for any imput.

could be a kill switch, keyswitch, powerpack, etc
is it a old style 115 or the new optical sensor motor?

Thanks for the reply. I checked the kill switch, interestingly it will not move when I pulled the clip off. I gently tried to push it in to check the travel on it and it would not budge. Did not really try the key switch. I do not know how to check the powerpak. Thinking I’ll just carry it to the shop. Hoping it would be a quick fix. I can work on fuel, but electronics throws me. Can’t tell you about ‘old style’ either.

Thanks again for your time.
