Left G-town around 6:30. 2-4 ft seas far apart. Ran out to 100ft picked up some c-bass, b-liners, pinkies, and one gag too short to keep. Saw 2 mahi swimming under the boat, but couldn’t get them to take the bait. On the way in stopped in 50ft and picked up 15 to 20 more c-bass. Came back in at around 38kts.
What did you drop to the mahi under the boat?
Nice day & report.

We tried frozen cigar minnows and squid. Had them to bite the squid but spit it back out. I maybe doing something wrong.
cigs should have worked…your best bet would have been something live, even a ruby lip/grunt

LOL
I’d of done exactly what you did, callin in. You could also have tried tossing a spoon or a 2 oz. yellow jig, since they were already under the boat and high in the water column.

The one trip I made that was actually bottom fishing and trying for Dolphin, the only thing I could get them to bite was a grunt…They didn’t want frozen cigs, or jigs (bucktail or gotcha lures)

I really wasn’t expecting to see a dolphin in that cool of water. I will have to try the grunts and jigs next time.
F’Boy, wasn’t busting your chops. Just laughin cause he told us the bait he had, frozen cigars and squid. I have caught dolphin under the boat by chunking ballyhoo and then dropping a whole one right in front of their noses. I didn’t MENTION that because he said his bait was cigars and squid. I mentioned trying jigs and spoons because most guys keep these on board with a spinning reel and is a great way to catch dolphin when floating a weed line or under the boat.
Callin In, glad you made it out. Always next time on the mahi!
