Got the call Wed. and after making the necesaary arrangements headed out Thurs. am with NoLimit, Realfish01, and company. Stopped in 50 & 65’ for a little freediving action with cold water and little vis or results. Strapped on the gear and first dive sent up a couple grouper. Pushed out to deeper water and next dive yielded more grouper and some bugs. Moved around same general area for most of the day yielding more of the same and a ledge loaded with mangrove snapper. Last splash brought us up full of bugs. Couldn’t have asked for a better day on the water with a good group of guys. Ocean was awesome, water 66, and vis 50+’. Limited out on grouper, bugs, and put a bunch of solid mangroves in the box. Couldn’t even fit all the fish on the table for a pic. Sure beat a day in the office.
Some of your mangroves may actually be cuberas. Look at their “tooth patches” in their mouth next time to tell. Mangroves’ look like an arrow, and cuberas’ look like a triangle.
Interesting that they are congregated this time of year like you found them. Probably some other cool features on that reef, too.
