It has been a long time since I have fished the ICW but my 9 year old is on Christmas break and the weather looked perfect so we hit the road at 5 am. Made good time to Mt. P and picked up 3 dozen muds from Haddrells just in case. Hit the water to slick calm conditions and zero wind around 8. At the first stop we found a very large school agressively feeding and the day kept getting better. Finished up with a hot bite that included a flounder before we loaded back up at 12:30.
Ended up with 28 reds from rats to 28" or so. All on muds with a jig head or white Gulp shrimp/jerk shad.
Thanks for the comments. More bites on the muds by far but the gulp shrimp on the jig head did well. Used a chart jig head for muds, not by design it was just what I picked up first and they liked it.
Great job! Your boy looks good toting those reds. And hats off to any 9 year old lad who gets on the water at 5 a.m. for some fishing! Great job, little man!
