The boys and I took the yaks out yesterday evening to try our creek. I had put out the minnow trap with a can of catfood and caught a handful of large (~2") glass minnows. I put one of them on a jig head and we trolled that and a couple artificials: a new-penny paddle tail and an electric chicken.
First rod down was my rod with the glass-minnow. It was a nice fat 18" trout. We ended up with 3 keeper trout and one lost at the boat in about 1 hr. Me and my 2 boys each contributed 1 trout to today’s lunch.
Darkness set in quick and we got back a little after sundown. And Mrs Optiker was NOT happy Next time, need to bring the cell phone…
We have caught more trout in the yaks this year than I have in the stink-pot!
The water was 49-50 and the trout have definitely moved further up the creeks. Thats a Pro-Tip.
Happy New Year!
