rolled out to the reef today.a little bumpy heading out, pretty smooth coming back. looks like it will lay down for tomorrow. kept 3 limits of blackfish about a 2 lb average.no sharks or trash fish. bait of the day was 2 oz white bucktail.

You going back out tomorrow? How is the inlet?

dirty boots are on - hi di ho

low tide depths are 3 ft at the folly marina crossover and 3.2 ft between the cans going from follw towards kiawah. the inlet had plenty of water coming back at low.
it’s looking good right now. i think we’re running out to 90 ft .leaving folly ramp 0730-0800
blood & guts will be monitoring 16 – not many boats out there right now.

Jig only or bait on the hook?

i fished the bucktail and the other 2 guys fished cut squid and cut bait on double drop rigs. i caught 40 fish approx. with 15 big keepers then had to wait on them to fill their limits.
smallest keeper was 13 3/4 "

folly basser

just the jig head or with a grub on it?..that’s awesome that you got to smoke them faster than the guys using real bait…AND you never had to change your bait! That’s SWEET…maybe that’s why you limited out faster

Florida Boy… If I can give you some advice, avoid stating the obvious and quit trying so hard. I’m not attempting to be mean, just trying to help you out with the interent chatroom thing a bit. Please do not respond to me on this, either take my advice under consideration or ignore what I have said… I mean this sincerely…

Fisher friendly site or a bunch of jokes? I think both…I’m 1 fisherman talking to another…Looking for tips…like to try sometime. Is there a BSB tournament I don’t know about that we should keep all tips a secret? It’s only on this site we have people like yourselves…Go to other fishing forums, they are absent. Sometimes this is more like an AOL “romance” style chatroom then a fishing forum… Might as well do as z71 does and put me on your ignore list b/c there are many more questions to come.

Didn’t your momma teach you the only dumb question is one not asked? The more I ask, the more skilled I will be. You’ll see this summer as my fishing reports start to flow in with tremendous catches!

Sea Bass are stupid, they will eat anything. When they are thick they will even eat the sinker and hold on until you can drop them in the boat. The easiest, cheapest way to catch them is to use a standard bottom rig with 2 5/0 Oshaunessy hooks with a standard curlytail grub pierced on. Just like you would on a jighead without the head. I usually use the ones I didn’t catch many trout on that year and the fish don’t care. No squid, no problem.

Florida Boy,
I agree with folly basser on the bucktail. Normally, it will draw the 3# + fish out of a hole. A lot of guys like the SPRO bucktails, but they’re expensive and I tend to lose them on the nearshore wrecks. I use a generic bucktail called a “Grouper Jig” It’s four or five bucks and you can get them as heavy as 13OZ. I use them when the sea bass are the only thing biting and I want to fill the bucket with green heads. Bare when the bites hot, tipped with squid for faster action, and tipped with a finger mullet if I have them to spare. If you drift the wrecks, you can work the nooks and crannies for greenheads and then drop them to the sandy bottom on the down current side of the wreck to try and pick up a flounder. The down side is that in deeper water, AJ’s and sharks like them too, and they can be tough to get out.

P.S. Thanks for reposting skinnees underwater footage the other day.
