Late report. Headed out around 8AM and headed to the channel markers to look for some bait. Didn’t find anything so we headed to Charleston 60 and saw a ■■■■■ of birds feeding. Proceeded to fill the livewell with cigar minnows and caught a couple of undersized sea bass. Next we headed out to about 75 feet over some live bottom and got anchored over a nice 5 foot ledge. It was non stop from there.
1 ARS (just over 20")

All in all a great day on the water. 30+ knots on the way out and back in. Hopefully be back out on Saturday to try for some more.

I tried some squid, a cigar minnow and a butterfly jig but no luck. Something tried to bite on the cigar minnow but the circle hook wouldn’t hook up. The bite was close to the bottom. Got any tips on the best plan of attack for next time?

What kind of shark is that? We caught one last trip at the Y-73. I can’t identify a shark very well. I’m pretty good at identifying the great white, hammerhead, and tiger…that’s about as far as my expertise goes on sharks.
Looks like a great day out there. 75-90’ seems like a preferred spot this time of yr.
That is the ellusive atlantic scampnose shark. EF was the first to properly identify them. Before his expertise was in the picture, we all called them sharpnoses.
The other unknown is a white grunt, a.k.a. key west and/or french grunt. They are good eating. Just cut the bloodline out of the fillet.

Congrats on your day.

Can you keep them? Size Limit/Good eating? I’ve never eating a shark b/c before I had my own boat, dad sd he wasn’t messing with them everytime we brought 1 to the boat.
sharks are a very fishy tasting fish. they need to be gutted and cleaned immeditaly. they urinate through their skin when they die, so you gotta steak em up quick. but lotta people love shark steaks
