12/30 Report

Man! Was that wind tough today or what? On a slow bite, we burned the trolling motor batteries in less than 4 hours and had to switch to the drift sock. By afternoon, the bite picked up a little. Spoon, Doc, and I ended up having an ok day drifting near the river channel in 45-65 feet of water with freelines and 35 foot down rods. Of course, we had to also jerk a few perch.

Another fun day of fishing with two good guys! Sure was chilly this morning with the wind blowing and the lake white capping. Wish I had tied that big spoon on sooner. It got a lot of bites today. Thanks Fog.

Darn, James! Y’all are tough!! I had to drive over to Irmo and when I went across the dam, I was thinking about how tough the fishing would be if I was out there.

Good job…

Big spoon? Parker?

Nope. Not a Parker. It was a 3 ounce blue and pearl spoon that is 4 inches long. I don’t know if Spoon figured out what brand it is, but he caught at least one of those keepers on it and had a couple of good fish come off of it. Drifting as fast as we were, I didn’t do the Parker due to it’s tendency to flutter out and up.

Thanks for the heads up! G’ona fish Murray Monday, mabe the crowds are going back to work!

Nope, not a Parker. Didn’t have one of those with me Friday. Probably couldn’t have kept a Parker spoon deep enough with the drift sock out. Definitely couldn’t keep the small spoons down while drifting. The big spoon was a 3 1/2 ounce saltwater jigging spoon shaped like a herring. I tied it on after we started drifting with the sock thinking it might work. Can’t recall the name of it. I’d drop it to the bottom, wind it up about 10’ and start jigging. Had a lot of hits that didn’t hook up, mostly on the fall. Seemed like whenever I’d miss a fish with the spoon we’d catch one on a downrod. If I’d known how good they would hit it I’d have tied it on a lot sooner!

Spoon, I was cleaning out my console bag and getting my tackle more organized (We’ll see how long that lasts:smiley:) and found a heavy spoon like the one you were jerking. I’ll keep it handy. Wish I knew what it is.
