12/7 fishing and a forecast from my dog

First off, and I hope they see this, “F” the weathermen. If any other job you could add a 20% chance of failure or success they wouldn’t even hire you. Partly sunny 68 my azz!

Other than that, enjoyed a day with DFreedom today. Had a good start early with a few trout and a red. Latter part of the day was rough. DF got his first ever trout on a Trout Trick, and his second, third… I think we have a believer!

When we found the trout, we pretty much saw they would eat anything. Caught them on a variety of arties and a mud minnow or two. They seemed to like a little deeper water. Most caught in the 10-14’ range, but a few shallow, also. The bite was STRONG. If they wanted it, they ripped it.

Fun day, but would have dressed a bit warmer had I less faith in our weather people. TOO MUCH TECHNOLOLOGY! I think they did better 10-20 years ago. Hell they should just call Chatanooga and Atlanta then punt!:imp:

Water temp 57-58. Main baits - trout trick, morning glory Z-man paddle tails, green & cream curly tail grubs (available at Haddell’s - money. fish luv 'em)
Good bite on both sides of falling. Incoming tide was a struggle, fishing everywhere but dry dirt.

Vinman TT trout

DF’s first TT catch. Bit off more than he could chew!

Another

DF is on it!

Cream/green curly tail

Morning Glory. I bought these yesterday. Daddy like!

Kudzu’s weather report for 12/8. "Tomorro

Man, thats one helluva report! Awesome, good read!

Weatherman cant even seem to find his butthole in the past two months. Amazing how off they have been.

Last sats , they predicted 70s and sunny, it didnt reach 60 , it was extremly cloudy with a strong NE wind blowing 15-20. They called for 7-8. Go figure.

Add 5-10 wind, deduct 5-10 temp , you will be on.

Forecast hourly late last night. Partly sunny 64. Rain around 2 pm. Winds NE 6 mph.

Reality.

Winds whipping and freezing azz cold all morning. Winds 10-15 steady from the North. Slight sun 4-6 pm.

Just rediculous. I don’t see how they get that far off in 12 hours.

Great job especially considering them conditions

when the water temp. is 57 that + 3 or 4 degrees is what you are going to experience when in the boat, unless there is bright sun and no wind.

As mentioned, I would call Mom in Atlanta the day before I planned on outdoor activities when I lived in God’s Country-pretty much successful 12-24 hours later!

In addition to being a heck of a fisherman and good friend, as you can see, Vinman is also quite a talented writer. Weatherman definitely blew it yesterday but still had a great day and have become a lot more confident in my use of arties. It still boggles my mind how quickly a bite will turn off and looking for and finding suitable (producing) spots is quite a challenge. I see places that look good, with structure, feeder creeks and other things that I think would make it appealing to a fish but catch nothing and then wonder if it is the wrong time, day, tide or all of the above. Fishing is a fickle hobby but, I guess that is why it is so appealing and so rewarding on those days you actually bring fish into the boat.

Thanks Vince for a great day on the water, looking forward to our next adventure. Tell Kudzu good call on the weather.

BTW, it’s been raining lightly here in Atlanta off and on for a few hours. Someone post if you get it tomorrow!

Strong work guys! I have always appreciated your help and tips. Can you offer one more? How did you find them in 10-14’ of water. I gues I have been sticking too close to the grass. What did you see to fish that depth? Thanks as always

Good job as usual, fellas. The two of you seem to make a pretty formidable team. Just don’t tell Bonzo…

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Oh, Bonzo knows. I think at some point there will have to be a show down.

As for finding fish, I rely solely on my innate ability to defer to Vinman who I believe gets his fishing tips from the aforementioned Kudzu. Seriously though, (and Vin will clear this up when he gets through fishing today), we fished grasslines or areas that had drop-offs from anywhere from 10 - 20’. Cast towards the grass, and reel back towards the boat. It seemed most bites were nearer to the boat in 10+ feet of water.

As you can see, I am riding Vin’s coattails.

One of the cooler things I’ve done to the boat is put a depth finder up front by the trolling motor. It has really made a difference in how I fish, especially the Cooper. Everything can look the same, but it is what is beneath - and how quickly it drops off and where - that makes spots unique.

Example, where Doug got his first TT fish, I knew where the ledge was and how far off the bank and how deep. So when you cast, it didn’t matter if you laid it on the shoreline, the bite would come at that point where the ledge was.

So, simple answer is through many casts, knowing what depths caught fish and which didn’t leads you to more fish. You just look for similar spots as you go.

DF also found a way to erase Bonzo’s blurs on his posts:imp: - but don’t tell him that:wink:. We usually fish right behind him on his semi-annul fishing sabbaticals. Shhhhh…

Great advice! Thanks guys. I will try that out as soon as i get my boat back. Just like every other type of fishing, I was doing it all wrong!

I usually fish from the poling platform and can see the depthdinder while my son fishes up front. I like that idea of the depth finder up front though.

Keep riding those coattails! Seems to be working well for you. Before too long you won’t be able to tell us what a terrible fisherman you are with days like that:). I had a good friend that used to put me on the fish all the time. Unfortunately he moved and the fish stopped biting!

Hey, I don’t do it “right” all the time, but it works for me. You seem to do pretty well with two kids tied behind your back! LOL!
This pic shows the set up.

That is a sweet set up. I dont catch fish, my wife and kids do! Of course, that is all that matters.
