Found a deal in a future beach angler 144. It is 12’ long and I want to use it to fly fish the creeks in murrells inlet. To long?
Nope
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
nope… it won;t be fast but it’ll be fine. easier to turn around in small creeks than my Tarpon 160

Long time ago, I paddled 17 and 18 foot sea kayaks up in the creeks. The length never bothered me and I got up in some tight stuff just exploring.
Good to hear, because I pulled the trigger on it this afternoon. Got the future beach angler 144 sit on top with paddle for $300. Looks to be in great shape and less than a year old. Guy was selling it to get a tandem for him and his wife. Any riggin suggestion I may need to add? I am super excited to get out in murrells inlet ASAP.
Congrats on the new boat! An anchor trolly is one of the few must have rigging add-ons imo. Of course it should have rod holders but everything else is a matter of personal preference. Look up some pics on kayak fishing rigs and get some ideas. I hot glued a bit of closed cell foam to the side near my knee that I slip a tethered fillet knife into so it’s always handy, for example. Start fishing and you’ll figure out what your needs are and aren’t. I’ve been using a OK Prowler 15 that was not originally set up for fishing and it looks like a similar layout to your boat. (also paid $300) I keep a small tackle box with the things I use most in front of my seat and a bigger box, cooler, net and small dry bag in the back. This leaves room directly behind the seat for a minnow bucket to sit while paddling. PFD gets strapped on top of the front hatch and a cutting board (23" long with markings at 14 and 15") slips under it. Anything else I might bring like cast net, minnow trap go in that front hatch. I’m not fly fishing so my needs are a little different but you get the idea.
And like Rigger, I have had 17’ kayaks up creeks that I have to back out of more times than I can count.
Enjoy!
