Went out yesterday in search of grouper, heard everyone headed to the main PLOT ledge so decided to try some new numbers away from the sea bass pots and most of the boats. We fished around 100ft all day in 66 degree water
Ended up catching a bunch of bottom dwellers and a bunch of top dwellers, missed a few good grouper and got gagged twice:dizzy_face: but all in all a great day. Both fish boxs were slammed full of fish by the end of the day, headed in at 245 at 52+mph through a flat sea and still made it to work in myrtle beach by 430
Best part of the day though was the 20lb dolphin we caught on the drift line, didnt believe it myself until i had the gaff in him and he was on the deck! Bait was everywhere and so were the tunny.
Caught a bunch of kings and other fish on top which suprised me, caught a few kings and ajs on the butterfly also.
On Top
1 20lb dolphin(yes a dolphin on dec 30)

20+ Grunts
3 Limits of Silvers
a bunch of big seabass
3 30lb AJs
Beeliners and other assorted bottom fish

Wow what a day glad to hear you had a great day and i couldnt beleive how flat it was either. we seen a bunch of tunny or bonita on top of the water at about 22 miles out. Happy new years!!!
Now that’s a steller day there…Kinda like one I’m looking for with the topwater fish! Are you eating the AJ’s or giving the meat away? I’ve wanted to try some but hear too many stories about them just being nasty…In the gulf they’re good but all i’ve seen is worms in them hear and horror stories about eating them
I know of people eating them that say they taste fine…I think I’m going to keep one and try it…always try something once…I also know people who love to eat barracuda…Something about that gall bladder or what-not gives me the creeps
