I’m looking at getting new Riptide SP with i Pilot. Is the extra 12v more for time running, or a power gain, or both? 55lb is available in the 12V but I’d have to go up to 24V for the 70lb. Don’t really want to add the weight of another battery, or find the space to put it. 17’ moderate v center console. I’m thinking somewhere around 1500 lbs loaded. The 54 lb thrust that is on there now used to push it pretty well, but seems to be fading on me. I’m just thinking about peak flow times during the middle tides and shrimping season in the fall in the harbor. Being able to program a track would be awesome while throwing the net…
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I think you will not be satisfied with a 55 thrust. You will have to suck up the additional weight

I think you are right Op. Not really that much more $$$, until you add in another battery and battery charger… Hmmm…

I have the 55# Ipilot on my 17 CC. Great on the lake and backwater, sucks in the main channels or harbors. Wish I would have gotten the 70#.

I opted for the 70lb iPilot Minn Kota for my 17’ Sea Pro and it was the right choice. Batteries will last all day and I’ve needed the extra power numerous times. If you can afford the extra cost and have a location for two batteries its the right choice, you won’t regret the decision. As many have said about this topic; no one ever complains about too much power but many complain about not enough.

Thanks all! I figured if you saw this Chris, you would know. Now I just have to find a place for another battery…

By the way. Good call getting a TM. Your catching will improve and you will never go back!
