There’s a difference between driving over the speed limit (unlimited resource) and keeping either over slot/out of season fish (limited resource).
While technically, both are breaking the law, there’s no quantifiable way to measure the impact of going 80 in a 60. I suppose you could argue higher accident rate for higher rates of speed, which I won’t disagree.
However, fish are a limited resource and if everyone that catches a fish decides that they don’t have to follow slot/season laws, then that is quantifiable and does have an impact.

My point being, there are lots of laws/rules we don’t like or don’t agree with (I hate paying taxes. I hate that my HOA says I can’t keep a boat in my driveway. I think it’s BS that I now have to pay for other peoples healthcare, etc. etc, etc) but I follow them because there’s a penalty for not doing so if I decide to roll the dice.
Do I bend the rules? Of course, we all do.
But for some reason, when it comes to fishing, I’m a stickler because I believe the resource needs protection and as fisherman, we should all be self-policing and have the integrity to do the right thing, even when no one is looking.

The one thing you have to account for is that the council DOES factor in “compliance” with the law. If they think that we follow the laws, allocations are HIGHER. If they think that 20% of the people are not following laws, then they add in a 20% buffer into their allocations (that means our limits are 20% less). So, regardless of what you do, it hurts everyone when you post on the internet that you do not intend to follow the law.

And by the way, I know for a fact that several council members read this website. Bluefly was actually standing right next to me when their public information offer mentioned Charlestonfishing.com by name.

im not endorsing fillet and release believe me. I just find it funny when people get all bent out of shape over some anonymous poster who’s just stirring the pot… just my 2 cents is all… no offense meant to anyone

We caught atleast 15 last sat…our biggest could eat the 1 in your pic sells,it made us sick to have to let him go…but hey we could keep little b liners all day…

My comments on this thread (which I’ve deleted) were said in jest, which I thought would be obvious, but apparently not. In any event, is anyone else concerned that these government morons apparently put some weight in comments on websites like this one? Comments from completely anonymous posters who are likely full of it. That just seems asinine to me. Non-compliance is a legit factor, but for crying out loud, use real data.

The government will never, ever, ever let any possible crisis or blurb that can be used to advance their agenda go to waste. Shoot, they out right lie to us so why wouldn’t they stretch something out that someone here posted?

Umm, you gonna eat that?
