I went with a group of catfish guides and the owners of Canal Lakes resort and Blacks Camp. We ran to a piece of ledge that will soon be off limits for ever, as they stretch the Edisto MPA to grab more ledge. Well we managed to get through all the endangered Red Snappers to get a limit of scamps, B-liners, pinks and rudders. Highlights of the day were a 10’ Tiger shark and snapping a catfish rod on a grouper! Only saw 2 other boats all day, Nut3 and Tenacious.

I was tired…drove round trip to Fort Payne Al. and back, got in at 1:30 and up at four to go fishing. That is a look of disgust! I have to listen to some bureaucrat tell me how endangered these fish are, and I can’t get through them to catch a grouper. We were all sick about throwing back such beautiful fish.

Sells, We had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Finally decided to move because it was heartbreaking releasing all those nice snapper. Caught a couple nice gags on the ledge but never could catch a scamp. What’s your secret on the scamps?

quote:You folks need to learn the technique known as "fillet and release." It works wonders on those red snappers.
Have you read the thread on here about drones? [:0]
We got stopped in the GOM a few months ago and they looked in every spot in the boat that could have possibly held a fillet, every locker and compartment and inspection plates including picking up and shaking every fender. They did not miss a spot. Except for the Tupperware container of ceviche in the lunch cooler

And we wonder how SAMFC comes up with their rules? All they have to do is read this. Even if it is ‘in just’, it becomes difficult to understand the intent of the statement, so they take it literally (no pun intended). So when they read statements about defiance of the laws, how else are they going to ‘protect’ the fisheries? By closing them down altogether.
And as Larry says, they know all of the hiding places. And they know where we are.
Do the rules apply on my boat? What the hell kind of question is that? Of course they apply…they apply in outer space too for all I care. My point is more along the lines of this: if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound if nobody is there to hear it. Get my drift? At some point, every man has to determine whether he’s going to be a hammer or a nail. I’ve made that call.
So, what you’re saying is that you not only keep red snapper out of season (illegal) but you also filet them while at sea (illegal).
What I’m getting from your comment is that if no one sees you breaking the law, you didn’t really break the law?
