150 Evinrude XP??

Does anyone know anything about these motors? It is on a bass boat and it doesnt idle well but will throttle up some. Probably bad gas but either way… Im not sure of the year but it is early nineties I would say…maybe late eighties. Any info on motor gremlins, dependability, performance etc… I hear they are very thirsty but that is ok with me. Any info would be appreciated.

i would pull the carbs down and clean the jets and bowls the low speed jets may be dirty wich can result in poor idle

Yeah and I was just reading on another site about these motors how the float bowl itself, in some years, is made of a plastic that warps?? I was already planning on tearing the carbs down and doing a thorough cleaning but supposedly the motor was just rebuilt. I also read that on the XP 150’s they had 175hp carb sets on them…don’t know if that is true or not. Either way…are these motors something to be avoided or do they have an ok rep. It is actually a friend of mine who got this boat and wants my help getting it on the water. Next project is to get the steering broke free. It is a two cable system…dont know anything about that either but Ill learn as I get into it
