16 pound wahoo saved the day 6/30...

Headed to the SW Banks only to be greeted by sloopy 4 footers at Marker 12…messed around the channel a bit, headed to the CHS 60 as the sea laid down “somewhat”. Pulled our normal dolphin spread a mile south of the structure and pulled a hoss bonito from a school of porpoise going nuts over a ball of squid…picked up one small king (looked like a record spanish). Water laid down some more, headed to the Commanche, got multipule barrafingcudas and a really big 26 inch dolphin…trolled all the way to Y-73 picked up another cuda at the COOPS bouy and another one at Y-73, headed to the Garden and wham…250 yards off the spool. Normally I guess we would have known wahoo, but we didn’t have a clue until 5 seconds before the gaff stuck. Made one more pass and headed home.

My son’s yankee roommate (first time offshore) got the dolphin and the wahoo, said it was the best day of his life, guess that is why we continue to go…and go and go.

I forgot to add the wahoo hit the only TLD 20/with live bait rod, which added to the drama…good job by a fine young man on the biggest fish of his life…so far.

do not understimate your tld-20, it is probably capable of a 100+# fish

I’d say that is relative to the angler. I have seen real nice fish lost on a 130 due to angler error. Gotta know what your doing.

Congrats to the first time offshore angler on the wahoo!

You are both correct…After my crew caught 121 sails (80 to 130 pound sails) on TLD 20’s in Guatemala a few years back, I knew that was the best all around reel if I ever bot an offshore boat. Also use 25’s on stiff rods and I think with the right angler and captain it is capable of about anything.
