Thanks. It already had the Pate tank replaced with a red tempo tank. however it is old, grimy and turning pink, so I ordered a new Moeller tank that is white and made specifically for a Montauk.
You’re killin’ it! Boat’s gonna be immaculate if the stuff you’ve already done is any indicator. Forums like this get me as fired-up almost as much as catch reports! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Hopefully after this weekend the hull will look as clean as the console as I attack it with an acid wash and compound wax. I need to get with Happy Bob and get him to work his magic on my boarding ladder. After I install the trim tabs this weekend I know the ladder is going to swing down onto the tab. I need to see about making a new mount that pulls it off the boat 12".
Hopefully sunshine is is in the forecast this weekend as the work moves back outdoors.
Finally had nice enough of weather to bring it out of the garage and get the whole boat clean. Acid wash, bleach/soap bath, then a compound wax. The hull drank the wax and did not do as well as the console. I will need to do it again before the summer. But it was enough to look the gel coat for now and keep anymore stains from getting on. Also had a new helper this time. She so ready to go. Also, muriatic acid is awesome on rust stains.
How difficult was it to install the trim tabs, including the controls? I have a 17’cc and have been contemplating adding them, but am trying to weigh all the pro’s and con’s, and this info would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Looks good! You probably already know this, but a few years ago I was speaking to the girl at Twin Cities Marine and she mentioned to me that most people don’t know that the best and cheapest replacement Whaler decals are sourced direct from Boston Whaler. Many people sell replacement decals for multiple times the price that you can get direct from Whaler. I seem to recall she said they were something like $5 each or something ridiculous like that.
The trim tabs are easy. This is the 2nd time I have installed them. The mounting on the transom took all of 45-60 minutes. The 2 harnesses run up to the console. You have a control box that the switch, and ram harness’ plug into. Mount the switch to the dash, connect power to your fuse panel. Done.
I have looked at the OEM source for decals, and there is only one place that legally can make decals. Magic Brush in Fl. I haven’t called yet, but I heard they are very reasonable. $5 is a no brainer. North of $20 each and I will just have a local shop print them.
Got another big component added this morning. Engine is all mounted up. I just have to purge the hydraulic lines, hookup the harness, and control cables, and she is ready for a test drive. Minus the seats.
Also go the new bimini put together and laying in the boat. Along with the front hatch refinished.
Man,it is looking great! I always liked those Montauks. I had some rich cousins that got a new one every Summer. Yep, every Summer. Never knew what they did with their “old” ones. Anyway, that is going to be a great rig for you and your family.

Looks real good. You’ve done a lot of work in a short time:sunglasses:
Why did you mount the tabs so far inboard?

To get the cylinder mount into the wood transom. The outside of the transom is just foam. I realize I could have removed the foam and added epoxy, but it was just too much effort just to get them outboard more. It’s not a wide boat, so I think the hull will respond just as well closer to keep. My last boat was about as wide and I had no trouble getting plenty of response mounted so close to the center.
