1750 DC Hydrasports problems

I recently acquired the boat i grew up on and now i am having some issues with it. First it is the 1990 Hydra Sports Vector 1750 DC with a V4 Evinrude 115. I remember my dad having 3 ppl in the boat and still pulling up skiers. Now if i put 4 people in the boat it acts like it doesnt want to go i can hardly get it to plane off it just kind of plows until it finally finds the top of the water. Second the other day i went for a long ride at cruising speed and the boat kind of cut out would only go about 5 mph i would think this is safe mode for the motor but safemode also has a beeping noise or a warning tone. Anybody have any advise?

Shop work:
Flush Tank
check compression
rebuild carbs
powerpack

I run an older boat, also. 1988 HenryO with a 1995 Johnson 88spl. On hulls that vintage, if the fuel system has not been reworked, then…

Fuel lines can be deteriorating from the inside out.
Fuel filters will be clogged. If you don’t have a spin on 10 micron filter, install one.
Carbs are cruddy. - Get a Seloc manual or OEM manual and rework them.

I had to replace my tank this past spring. Hopefully, you’re not headed there.

Good hull and motor, though. Get them right and I bet you get a lot of service out of them.

Well i just resealed my floor compartment that covers the tank and the tank looked fine so i dont think its the gas tank, the carbs have been rebuilt twice since i got the boat and both times it ran the same so i dont think its them and the fuel lines were all gone thru last year when i had all the other fuel system components drained and cleaned. i really am at a loss for what it could be i dont think i have any water in the boat becasue the dry weight with the motor is suppose to be 1900 so with the trailer and batteries and fuel i think im pretty close to what it should be

Go see Chris at Charleston marine, I had a very similar issue, minus he safe mode and he fixed it right up. I did all the normal checks and was also at a loss.

Carbs. If the motor is a 90 model as well, there is no computer, hence no safe mode. I can almost guarantee its not running on all 4 cylinders when it acts up.

slosir needed a carb job,
biggest thing you currently need is a good diagnostic

tigerfin
that motor does still have safemode
its controlled through the powerpack by the overheat circuit

I have 2 suggestions:

Check the fuel tank vent. Critters like to build stuff in them. The symptom will be exactly has described.

Check the timing. Engine timing could also be the culprit and is often overlooked when troubleshooting. I experienced this on myself. Had similar symptoms but never considered timing because I had never adjusted it. Apparently it was never set properly or the previous owner played with it. A very small timing change made a huge performance difference.
