I have a 90 Yamaha 2 stroke and with the amount of putting around I do with the family, I wish I had a 4 stroke. The noise level becomes a pain, when your making way at just above idle it’s a little loud.
I might be wrong about this but pretty sure key west has 2 versions of their 17’. One being a bay boat and one being more like a skiff.
Someone mentioned price of boats in this area and I’ll agree with that. I found my boat for sale on CL in central Georgia, outside of Macon. Also, right now is probably the easiest time of year to SELL a boat.
I really like my boat; have a wife/ 2 young ones, I go fishing in creeks and harbor. Hit an occasional reef. I think seahunt made well rounded economy boats before they started making fancier boats.
Just be mind full the four strokes will start making oil with excessive idling. That 2 stroke will work great if that the main purpose for buying it is tooling around.

Tell me more about 4strokes making oil. KW1720 is a great boat, I got one when they first came out.Trust me,you’ll want to get something bigger than a 90 after you’ve had it for a while. I sold mine because of the 90.
Mainly “make oil” in lots of cold water trolling. A friend ruined an f250. Basically had 2 quarts over full. Oil was so thin from gas in it. Developed a knock. I know his fault for not checking regularly. But still a bad motor
. 500 hrs
I know its been mentioned on this site before, so you can look it up. I have a Yamaha so I can speak for mine, I do a good bit of idling, especially while deep hole shrimping and going to the sandbar. I sometimes come, and go to the sandbar at no more than 1200 rpms for over a mile one way. Last year between the sandbar, and shrimping I had made over 2 qts. of oil at only 54 hrs on a 100 hr oil change . My motor was broke in to a T as to what the dealer recommended, which was over and above what Yamaha’s suggested. I babied my motor, I thought the easier I was on it, the better fuel mileage I would get, until last year and after doing some research,. I found out these motors run so cool, and the lack of using ring free " which I ran out of" in the gas the rings would start to carbon up the rings, " Ring Free is $ 64.00 a quart". They have to be run hard for a while after a lot of idling to burn off the gas that can build up in the crankcase.
Therefore the comment about a 2 stroke and putting around, and maybe a burnt plug for $ 5.00 or a ($100.00) oil change because of gas filling up the crankcase, if you do it yourself.
Have a good friend that will be selling his 2012 kencraft 21 challenger soon. He is just getting it all ready to go. Been on that boat many times it’s fast and drives well even in a pretty crappy sea. It’s still a 21’ boat but a great option. F200 Yamaha in excellent condition. I can put you in touch with him if interested
I have a 2000 Key West 1720 with a Mercury 4 stroke which is all Yamaha powerhead that year. It is great on fuel and will idle perfect all day if you want. It’s a great motor but honestly is to heavy for the boat IMO. The same weight as putting a 115 2 stroke on that boat. Mine would make oil also until I put a new thermostat in last year. There were a ton of carb problems with the earlier motors but I have never had a problem with them myself. I run non ethanol fuel with stabil and use the Yamaha ring free everytime. I still crack the oil drain plug the next day after use to make sure no water is in the oil.
