Hey guys, I have a 1970 Johnson 25HP tiller. The fuel bulb fills up and stays hard when I pump it to start. It will stay firm while I’m slow trolling or at idle but at full throttle the engine only runs well if I pump the bulb to keep it firm. If I don’t pump it, the bulb goes soft and eventually the motor stalls. Would this be a fuel pump problem? The tank is vented if that helps. Didn’t have much time to troubleshoot further but these where the first things I noticed…any help or advice would be appreciated. Will be tackling this project again this weekend.
Not positive about this but when I had that problem I replaced the bulb and had no more issues.I believe they can just wear out.
Fuel pump leaking. Pumping the bulb takes the place of the fuel pump, thats why it stays running.

That was the first thing that popped into mind. Didn’t want to order one until I could get a few more opinions. Thanks

Checked that while I was tooling around in the boat, seemed to be fine, no leaks. However, I planned on replacing the line to eliminate any issues there…looked like it needs it anyway. I’ll start with that and see what happens next. Thanks
