Sweet ride! You did an excellent job bringing her back to life. I’ve been waiting to get after the spanish. Did you catch those this week in the harbor?

I think there is a certain someone on here that also just restored a mako. I think he lives in your neck of the woods too

pretty boat for sure!

“mr keys”

What kind of performance with that merc?
I have he same hull that I’m going to restore. But mine is the outboard model.
I’d like to do a full transom and bracket or scissor jack plate.

Is that an optimax, efi or carbed?
Looks great.

SSFiero, Just getting it out of break in mode and trying to get the prop dialed in. Right now with a 21P prop im getting 39 MPH @ 5800 RPM. The problem is Im still able to over rev so im going to a 22P. It sits a little to the back on plane with the bracket so I have the switch for the trim tabs hopefully that will help. It is an Optimax, I wanted a Yamaha 4 Stroke but I could not see dropping 20G on something to use on the weekends when the weather cooperated. I was glad this weekend sitting at the house watching it rain with no boat payment.

Awesome job man! I’ve been restoring a 22’ mako for the past two years. Its take’n me way longer than I had planned, but life gets in the way sometimes. I cant wait until I can back her into the water. I know you must have felt like you were on top of the world.

Well done sir :sunglasses::sunglasses: I know what kind of work it takes to do that. Fine job of bringing a good old boat back to life.

Breeze, at one point my Wife said I was spending to much time at the shop working on the boat and she wanted to see more of me so I moved the boat to the house to finish it up and made her help. Problem Solved:smiley:

Nice work. Nice smackdown too.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Nice work! A year and eight months, wow, way to stick with it! Lots of work but I’m sure a tremendous sense of accomplishment…

That doesn’t add up. Google says your gearcase is 1.75:1.
Even if it was 2:1 which I don’t think merc offered anything that high for an opti.
You’d be seeing 55-60mph with a 21p prop.
Either the prop is slipping like crazy or the tach is off.
I’m not an expert by any means, but you may want to look closer before buying another prop.

A 200-250 opti is high on my list for my 23 mako. So I’ve read a lot about that combo.
I would think you’d see 45-50mph based on what guys say on classicmako.com

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

SSFiero I don’t know what to tell you I wish I was getting 55-60. Merc rep took it on a river test hooked up to the computer with the 19 P prop so I know the Tach is correct. The 225 is actually a little under powered for that boat I wanted a 250. Remember I have the Bow cuddy cabin and the bracket so it rides a little low in the back end and is a little heavier then the open bow. I have not had it at full throttle yet so Im sure once I get it dialed in I will see 50 mph. I have been working very close with my mechanic who is a certified optimax guy so I feel pretty confident in him. The weather looks like its going to give me a break so I can play this weekend. Ill let you know more. Thanks for the food for thought
