Just got it from a guy that spun the hub on a sand bar. Got new prop on it, runs great but it doesn’t pee. I havent run it long enough to get it to op temp in fear of burning up impeller (or engine). Also, when I went to put the muffs on it…I didnt see anywhere water intake would be…just a small hole on both sides so I figured that was the water intake? Never messed with a small motor before. I assume it has mud plugging somewhere because of the sandbar strike…what is the best way to get this unplugged…coat hanger? I dont really want to have to take the lu off just yet. Thanks! Oh and GO SEAHAWKS
I had an '86 that had the water intake above and aft of the prop just below the cavitation plate. The attachment had a female hose thread with a wrap around style shape and spring for securing. The motor had a very narrow intake hole facing port side only with a S.S. intake screen. If still not sure, place foot in a container of fresh water, garbage can or bucket, and run engine. Fish a small diameter wire up the water exit prior to running to determine if the exit is plugged. Good luck. If the wire doesn’t do it, I wouldn’t run it beyond a few seconds without water weeping out the hole.
To clarify. the intake was on the forward part of the underwater exhaust port just above and aft of the prop below the cavitation plate. Will google for photos and get back to you…
Sometimes sand gets lodged at the pee hole outlet. Use an air compressor with a blowing outlet to dislodge while the engine is in a tub of water and running. You don’t have to make an actual connection to the pee hole, an inch or two away will work fine. If this doesn’t cure the problem or the problem keeps coming back; you can remove the thermostat which also traps sand until the rest of the sand is flushed out. This may take a few times using the motor to clear as sand and salt tend to harden in an engine over time. Salt Away is a good product to assist in flushing. Just add it to the tub of water. Good luck, George
OK! Yeah…that’s my fault I should have recognized that as the water intake. I was in my backyard at night, cold, holding a flashlight in my teeth…i saw that but didn’t even register to me at the time. Thank you very much for the link/pictures. I’ll have to use some wire (which I happen to have) and if that doesn’t do it Ill end up pulling the thermostat off like George said. Ill probably pull it off anyways to make sure it is functioning.
Thanks again!
You can pull the pee tube loose from the engine and see if water comes out there or if the tube is actually clogged. I’ve had to pull tube completely off to unclog. Took the connector off on my110 johnson and just let the tube stick through the hole in the housing.
