I have an 83 johnson 150 that is not throttling up when I shift the lever forward. I removed the throttle cable and it seems to shift ok, although I am going to go ahead and replace it. I’m going to try to upload a photo of where I think the problem is and maybe someone can offer advice.

The large arm in the middle of the pic that runs top to bottom does not shift very well. It is not impossible, but it isn’t smooth. The other problem I have is this. At the top of the large white arm in the center is a small metal s shaped wire that attaches to something under the fly wheel. that metal s shaped piece attaches to a small black plastic piece which is attached to an arm under the fly wheel that rotates foward. This s shaped piece will no longer stay attached to this small black piece under the arm that sits under the flywheel(at least I think thats what it is. )
Hope that wasn’t too confusing. Any help would be great appreciated. My biggest problem is getting that s metal rod at the top of the white arm to stay in the black small plastic piece. thanks again. Craigan.
ok…best I can gather is that this rod at the top is called a Maximum Spark advance control rod… Hope this helps.
Ok, got that part put back together correctly. My question now is how much tension should there be on the arm that pushes the throttle forward. It takes a decent amount of umph to push it forward. Is this correct? Thanks.
the thing under the flywheel is the trigger
it controls timing
it should move freely when not attatched to teh white arm.
the big white arm attatches to the throttle to advance the timing as soon as you advance the fuel. the “split” in the big white arm, allows the throttle to continue to open the butterfly in the carbs when the timing has maxed out
we see corrosion around the bolt and bushing in the middle of the big white arm, and we also see old grease and gunk bind up the trigger.

Thanks so much! Now I believe I have a problem with the actual shifter in the front of the boat. I push it forward and don’t get throttle until it’s pretty far forward. Gonna take a closer look at it tomorrow. thanks again for the info. New all those parts had names…
