Ok, i’m far from expert when it comes to outboards, so I need some ■■■■■■■■ from you guys that know your stuff. I have a 1991 Evinrude 225 that will crank, and run fine, but it does not pee well… It is a trickle. I have not run it more than about a minute at a time for fear of overheating. The problem comes with changing the water pump… I took it to an acquaintance that is a mechanic and he told me he could get the foot loose, but could not get the shaft to come loose in order to change the water pump… He was in the process of moving his business and could not spend much time with it… Is this a common problem on an 91 rude 225? Is it fixable? Is it worth the money to fix, or should I be looking for a new to me used motor? Thanks guys!
should be able to fix it, the only thing that gets real bad is if the drive shaft is stuck in the crank
I sure hope so… I’d like to be able to use this boat this year… lol
That is NOT a good situation ! If your not able to drop the lower unit your drive shaft splines have fused(rusted ) together with your crank splines. I had the exact problem with a 1990 200hp Evinrude.I had to take a sawzall cut a slice into the exhaust housing to cut the driveshaft, drop the lower unit , then pull the powerhead, and if your lucky you can use PB Blaster and heat to remove the driveshaft from the crank. If that doesn’t work then you’ve got to tear down your powerhead and replace the crank. Its not a hard process, but a costly one.Mine wasn’t that bad because i had all the parts from a previous set of motors and did the work myself in a weekend.
if you cant get it apart, which does happen, and you arent a good mechanic, you will need to look for a replacement motor

Thanks guys… Is there any value in a motor like this for parts? Just wondering if I can sell it off and start the hunt… Thanks again for all the info!
