Okay, so a while ago Asked about how do drop the foot on a '92 evinrude 15hp so I could change the water pump. There was a complication because when I dropped it, the shift rod kept it from coming all the way down, so I posted on here to find out how to take the shift rod loose. Well The motor has been sitting with the foot pulled out about an inch for about 2 months (its taken me a while to get down to the beach and work on it) and when I saw it this weekend, it had leaked (gear lube, im assuming) all over the ground. This may be a stupid question, but I thought the gearcase was sealed off (except for the drain/fill plug of course)… So if its coming out of the foot now that it has been dropped, what would this mean? Any ideas?
If it is coming out of the exhaust it is probably unburned oil mixture.
Shift shaft - depends on if you have a long or short shaft motor but generally, shift the motor into forward. Then you will see a screw looking back at you through that 1 inch gap. Actually two screws. Take out the top screw and the shif rod will be disconnected.
