1999 Scout Hull Gelcoat

I have been monitoring the gelcoat on the front “v” part of the hull on my 1999 scout flats boat. I am looking for a remedy, or repair kit that isnt extremely expensive in lieu of sending it in the shop. There are no “soft” spot that I can feel.

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the trailer is causing the damage. Might need some adjustment before the fix. Depending on how far down it goes they make keel guards that stick on to cover the damage. Some people are having line-x sprayed as a keel guard also.

That needs to be fixed asap. There are a few options we could do. But the trailer needs to be fixed also.

Get rid of that v and replace with bunks. Or raise the bunks and move forwsrd

What type of bunk are you thinking should go here? One that runs parallel with the boat? I not sure that it can be moved, but I would like to figure out the best way to fix that area.

I was thinking for the keel, to just get some Spectrum gel coat repair kit and doing it myself, but following the instructions.

Thoughts? Willing to learn just need guidance.

Thanks,

B

If the bunks can’t be raised you can carpet a length of treated 2x4 and screw it over the existing bunks, it will rise it about 2" and do away with the scraping. The bottom need to be reinforced ASAP to prevent ant further water intrusion it shouldn’t cost to much if you just glass it and not gelcoat!

Get rid of V and add 2 more bunks.

The gelcoat patch kit is not going to work. You have to grind out the area, remove all wax, fill, fair then spray gelcoat. You will need a pint of it. Color is Bone. That’s a lot of work to make it right.

The cheep fix is West 610 the areas so that it is sealed.

What loopervet said. That boat needs more than gelcoat to repair it.

So, with the West Six-10, can you sand it down once you’ve spread it over the effected area?

you can sand it after hit sets up.
note, though, that many epoxy products don’t accept gel coat with out some extra steps. Make sure you read the destructions.
