Gonna try them rockfish this weekend for the first time in a month. Any body been fishing this week that can help me with a general strategy. The style of fishing you are using or some areas from the map that might be worth checking out. All advice is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks
I’d help out if I could. I haven’t striper fished at all since the kid’s tournament back in July. We did go for a boat ride last weekend and I didn’t see any fish deeper than about 50’ with most more shallow than 40’. Normally this doesn’t happen until September/October and I run straight up the river but with it being so early, I’m not sure they would be up there yet. Sorry I can’t me much help.
There are a lot of fish schooling between Schull Island and Spence Islands. My neighbors caught their 15 fish limit on topwater last Friday, and only two were <21". Another friend caught his limit on Wednesday morning off the end of Schull Island, all were over 21".
Thanks for the tips Rick! Richard at Lake World told me that a guide picked up a handful of fish schooling at 11AM under bright sunshine one day this week to fill out his party’s limit.
Controlfreak and Shipwreck - I will be out there Sunday AM - my first time as well since early August.
Give me a call if you like, and I’ll let you know how I am doing. Maybe we can pin some fish down.
I’ll be out Saturday AM. I planned to go back to the Hill but tweaked my back earlier this week. At this point, a 15-20 minute ride in the truck would be much easier to uncoil from… I’ll post how we do.
I fished last weekend twice at the first set of islands right out of Jakes Landing. The ones right before you get to the tip of Shull Island. I fished the dam side of these, working the humps and troughs on the backside away from the river channel. Best luck was had not on the river side but off the backside of the hump.
Anyone going Saturday afternoon, or has the morning bit been better?
Any of you guys got a VHF or do you just telephone each other?
I’m mostly a saltwater guy so I’m used to the radio carrying a lot further, and there being no phone signal unless you are talking a Sat phone. I guess I’ll have to start my phone list…probably better that way not broad casting to the world if you talk on the VHF.
