I’m heading to Bulls Bay to shrimp Saturday morning around low tide, and have never been there. Would Buck Hall be my best boat landing or Garris? Any tips or tricks for either landing as far as launching or running out to and back from the Bay?
I’m coming from Summerville so it’s going to be a ride out to it, but I hope it pays off. I have absolutely no idea where we’ll set poles or anything else, I was raised West Ashley and usually shrimp the harbor but haven’t been out but once this year so far due to the weather and work.
Anything you guys that go out there often can tell me would be extremely helpful! Things like which side of the bay to run in and out of so I don’t ground the boat, because I hear it can be tricky, or any rough landmarks to look for to set up along side of.
Not asking for your areas, but if you do decide to pm me some good tips on where to set up I’ll throw the bone back and tell you where I usually do pretty decent when most are not in the Harbor. Fair trade agreement… hahaha… I probably won’t go one or two more times this year, so I’m no threat to anyone’s spots, thanks ahead of time for any guidance!!
Hope everyone is having a productive season and everyone stays safe out there!
Buck Hall landing is a better landing. No worries there on low tide. If you are going to Bulls on Saturday it’s going to be sporty. 1st day I see is Sunday at 10-15. If you decide to go head north from Buck Hall go out marker 48 and anywhere left of main channel in bay has produced shrimp all year. Good Luck
Getting into the bay from Garris landing is tricky at low tide. Once you’re in Anderson Creek it goes straight into the
bay toward the end of Bull island. Half way to Bull Island it’s only about 10 ft deep in the channel. You need to know
the bay as at high tide you can run straight to anyplace, but at low tide you could be on ground or trapped. We were there yesterday
and I ran straight to our spot at high tide and we set out poles in 7ft of water at high tide. We got out when the water got down
to 3-3 1/2 ft. We managed a cooler in 80 casts. Just off the actual channel has produced good numbers in the past.
meks,
If you draft a foot, you shouldn’t have too much trouble at Garris. Balance your weight bow to stern and keep the motor trimmed up a bit if you are concerned. I’ve used my trolling motor a couple times to get out, but haven’t had to since they dredged it. I posted a map on another thread that’ll get you to the bay, beyond that, discovery is half the fun: http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=165920
thanks everyone!! I’m hearing 20mph winds for tomorrow on sailflow,so we might try Sunday morning instead… I really appreciate the heads up from everyone!!
