1st trip lesson learned

Ok, 1st trip yesterday in the yak. Paddled around the upper wando for a couple of hours trying different spots. Finally paddled in to some grass and casted a shrimp towards a dock. BAM, fish on. As soon as I grabbed the rod, the fish pulled me out of the grass and into the dock I was fishing by. The fish then proceeded to run underneath the yak of the guy I was fishing with. As soon as the line went under the yak, the fish was off. Did i learn a lesson? NO! paddled back to the same spot in the grass, made my cast…BAM fish on. Once again, fish pulled me out of the grass and crashed into the yak of my fellow angler. This time, line was cut off on the rudder. After the 2nd fish, i decided it might be a good idea to use the $#(%#@ anchor that I had in the yak. Of course, once i dropped it, no more bites. I had no idea a fish would pull you out of the grass so quickly. Overall though, a fun 1st trip. Will use the anchor next time, before I make the first cast!

Anchor doesn’t always help. Solo fishing it’s a ton of fun to let the fish pull and go for the rednecj sleighride.

There is nothing - absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame

Got to agree with Busy…go for the ride!
