I got a pass for a day trip saturday, haven’t been morning fishing since summer. I still had snow in the boat so I didn’t want to get out too early. Got to Koon around 8:00 and had to park across the street. Plan was to fish Dreher/Macedonia/Crystal Lake. On the way across I slowed down over the humps between koon and dreher. marked a lot of bait and some nice fish. Dropped lines and picked up two keepers (23"&24") and a short. Things slowed down and I moved over around the islands in that area. When I stopped I picked out a big herring from the tank, probably about 8". Through it out and had the line pulled from my hand while hooking on the planer. Fish fought harder than all of the other, thought i had on a hog. It was just a fat 24" fish. Picked up 3 more shorts and called it a day. Water was 44* and the wind was about 6 to 8 mph out of the east/south east, overcast with slight drizzle early afternoon. Threw everything back but took some pics.
